Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has decided to strip four of her eight grandchildren of their royal titles.
This decision will deprive the children of her second son, Prince Joachim (sixth in line to the Danish throne) of their titles, namely Nikolai (23 years), Felix (20 years), and Henrik (13 years). ), and Athena (10 years), and instead of the titles of the Prince, Princess and Their Highnesses, they will be called “H.E. Countess of Monpezate” or “H.E., Countess of Monpezat” starting from January 1, 2023.
A royal statement clarified that "the Queen wishes, through this decision, to create a framework for the four grandchildren to be able to shape their own lives without being bound by the special considerations and duties represented by the official affiliation to the royal house."
