A simple daily movement boosts your heart health and prolongs your life.

A scientific study has shown that taking the stairs instead of using the elevator may be one of the simplest ways to boost your health and prolong your life.

Researchers found that this simple habit is associated with a 24% lower risk of death from any cause and a 39% lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Sophie Paddock of the University of East Anglia presented these findings at the European Society of Cardiology Congress in Athens, confirming that even short activities such as taking the stairs can reduce the risk of premature death.

She added, "Choose the stairs whenever you can. This simple decision protects your heart," noting that incorporating this activity into your daily routine is an easy goal to achieve.

To reach these results, the research team analyzed data from nine studies involving more than 480,000 participants between the ages of 35 and 84. The sample included healthy people as well as those with heart disease, with women representing 53% of participants.

The comprehensive analysis revealed that the benefits of stair climbing are not limited to reducing the risk of premature death, but also include a significant reduction in the risk of various heart conditions, including heart attacks, heart failure, and strokes.

Commenting on the results, Dr. Paddock said: "Our study suggests a relationship between the number of steps a person climbs and the extent of health benefits they experience. The more stairs they climb, the greater the benefits, but this needs to be confirmed."

She added: "Whether you're at work, at home, or elsewhere, we always advise you to choose the stairs whenever possible."

Most scientific evidence shows that regular exercise can significantly reduce the risk of premature death and heart disease. Therefore, health experts recommend at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week.
