A woman with a transplanted uterus gives birth to a baby for the first time in Italy 👼

The newspaper "Corriere della Serra" announced Saturday, that an Italian woman with transplanted uterus gave birth to a child on the island of Sicily, mentioning that this is the first case of its kind in the country.

The newspaper pointed out that the girl was born prematurely, weighing 1.6 kilograms, and is still under the observation of doctors. Her parents, Albina and Giovanni, named her Alessandra in honor of the woman who donated her organs after her death in 2020.

The mother of the newborn girl was suffering from a rare disease that prevents the fetus from developing in the womb. In 2018, the couple got acquainted with the pilot program of the National Center for Organ Transplantation, in which Catania Hospital participated. As for the donor, who had previously expressed a desire to donate her organs to those in need in the event of his death, she died amid the Corona pandemic from a stroke.

Albina contracted the coronavirus about a month ago and when the contractions started, the doctors decided to perform a caesarean section 🙏
