Social media users circulated a video clip documenting the moment a cloud fell from the sky to the ground without anything happening to it, in a strange incident that raised several questions.
The video was filmed in the Morong Raya area in Central Kalimantan Province in Indonesia, where a white cloud-like mass appears slowly descending into the sky, while a number of miners working nearby approach it curiously.
After the clip went viral, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Indonesia denied speculation that the mass was a cloud.
Andri Ramdhani, Director of General Meteorology at the Malaysian Meteorological Agency, explained that "the phenomenon is most likely not a natural cloud, but rather a condensation of water vapor or gas due to human activities occurring in mining areas."
The cloud-like steam formation may have been caused by the release of high-pressure gas from nearby mining activities, combined with low temperatures and high humidity, Andre said.
