Is instant coffee really harmful?

Some people believe that instant coffee can be harmful to health and cause serious complications to the nervous system and heart. Are these beliefs true?

Regarding the subject, Russian nutritionist Elena Solomatina said in an interview with Life.ru: "The negative effects of instant coffee are exaggerated by some. When producing this coffee, coffee beans are collected and processed using pressure and temperature, then dried and turned into powder or granules. In this case, the coffee loses some of its aromatic properties, but the caffeine, minerals, oils, and organic acids remain."

She added: "High-quality instant coffee is not harmful; it is convenient to prepare if you are short on time. However, it is important to choose good coffee made by reliable companies. Cheap instant coffee may contain additives and chemicals, including chicory or barley. Even more dangerous, it may contain harmful artificial colors."

The nutritionist recommended preparing instant coffee with cold water, the Greek way, and noted that a cold frappé is a good way to beat the summer heat.

Solomatina warned against "3-in-1" instant coffee, as these types of drinks contain harmful chemical bleaching agents, palm oil, and large amounts of sugar and artificial flavorings.
