Some Swiss cities are organically linked to certain numbers, such as the number 11 in the city of Solothurn, which has magical properties for its inhabitants.
Solothurn, the capital of the canton (state) of the same name, is the most beautiful baroque city in Switzerland. Its urban center dates back to the 16th century and is crossed by the Aare River. This city located in northwestern Switzerland was famous as the seat of the French embassy (from 1530 to 1792), and today it is famous for two important festivals: the Solothurn Film Days (in January) and the Solothurn Literary Days (in May). Both festivals are unique in their exclusive focus on Swiss cinema and literature, respectively.
In general, the history of the region, which dates back to Roman times, is strangely and closely linked to the number eleven (11). The inhabitants of this city of around 20,000 people, from all generations, give it an aura of magic and sanctity.
The relationship with it is rooted in ancient history. No one in Solothurn can say for sure why it is so important or find an explanation for it.
Yet this number is widely used and celebrated to this day. In fact, it represents one of the most enduring Swiss traditions.
