The film follows George Bailey (played by James Stewart), a man who has sacrificed his personal dreams for the sake of his family and the people of his hometown, Bedford Falls. On Christmas Eve, overwhelmed by a series of setbacks and feeling like a failure, George contemplates suicide. However, his guardian angel, Clarence Odbody (played by Henry Travers), intervenes. To help George see his worth, Clarence shows him what life in Bedford Falls would have been like if he had never been born. Through this revelation, George comes to realize the profound impact he has had on those around him and rediscovers the value of his life.
